2013 Summer Discovery Sessions

July 1, 2, 3 - Time Travelers: Colonial Connections, 9:30am-12:30pm: 
This camp focuses on every day colonial life. Each day of this session features hands-on history focused on the 18th century. Campers will be able to try their hand at cooking over a hearth, making soap, and exploring the past through colonial play. 
Ages 7-12, $90,00 per child

July 9, 10, 11 - Superheroes of Nature, 9:30am-12:30pm:  
This camp focuses on the heroes and villains of nature. Explore each animal's role in the environment and how some "villains" are just misunderstood. Learn about the epic struggles between these creatures and create your own comic book by the end of camp. Ages 4-12, $90.00 per child

July 16, 17, 18 - Nature Meets Art, 9:30-12:30:
This camp encourages kids to find artistic inspiration in nature to create their own masterpieces. Campers will learn about lines, color, and explore different artistic mediums to convey their artistic visions. Outdoor exploration of Newlin Grist Mill - nature hikes, creek walks, and other outdoor activities - will be sure to help get their creative juices flowing.
Ages 4-12, $90.00 per child

July 22-26 (Monday-Friday) - Junior Naturalist: Exploring Nature, 9:30am-3:30pm:
Newlin Grist Mill is once again offering a full-day week-long session. This in-depth camp focuses on natural history letting campers become junior naturalists. Campers will experience Summer Discovery favorite activities such as visiting the frog pond, but will also have the chance to investigate and explore the diverse environment around them.  
Ages 7-12, $200.00 per child.

July 30, 31 and August 1 - Get Active in Nature, 9:30am-12:30pm:
Take a hike, leap like a frog, waddle like a duck, stretch towards the sky, and take a deep breath in the forest. This session encourages kids to get up and get moving in nature. Campers will focus on physical activity in nature and how to be healthy in nature. Campers will make a journal of fun animal inspired exercises to do at home.
Ages 4-12, $90.00 per child

August 6, 7, 8 - Water Wizardry, 9:30am-12:30pm: 
Slither, crawl and hop your way to learning about the various critters that make their homes in our ponds and streams. Campers attending camp this week will learn about reptiles and amphibians, visit the frog pond, and compare diverse habitats through the hands on exploration of the ecology of Newlin Grist Mill. 
Ages 4-12, $90.00 per child

August 13, 14, 15  Where the Wild Things Grow, 9:30am-12:30pm: 
How do plants impact our world? They provide us with air, food, shelter, and even clothing! Campers attending plant camp will discover how plants impact human and animal life. Get down and dirty in the soil to explore plant life cycles. Campers will create their own planters to watch their seedlings grow. 
Ages 4-12, $90.00 per child
